Winding up the great time I had promoting my book in the DC area, was a book signing at the Barnes and Noble in Tyson’s Corner. Family and friends came out so I was very grateful for their support.
My 2 sister’s really came through for me when I needed them most. They each brought a couple of their good girl friends along – they graciously bought copies of the book.
Sold all the books in an hour. Met a couple of incredibly brave women who did come forward and share with me their similar life struggles. It was a wonderful moment, sharing my book with my sister’s, good friends, and most importantly, other women who are in the beginning stages of their recovery journey.
It was a great, fun, nervous couple of days for me promoting the book. My book, because of the subject matter, sexual addiction, is proving to be harder to promote than I had anticipated. I guess because I have lived and breathed this for the last 15 years, that everyone would be as comfortable as I am in talking about it. I sometimes forget the early years of my recovery when I was too embarrassed and ashamed to tell anyone. I even remember the day I went to buy “Out of the Shadows” by Patrick Carnes at our local Barnes and Noble. Sexual addiction wasn’t even in the title and I still remember feeling embarrassed to go stand in line and buy it. I actually waited until I didn’t see anyone in line and QUICKLY bought the book and threw it in my purse.
A beautiful young woman came up to me and asked me to sign my book to her. She is early in her recovery, and is working hard on herself, and, trying to salvage her marriage. She tried to get a couple of other women in her group to come with her, they declined. I understand this. One of my hopes for this book is that it will encourage other women to release themselves from the embarrassment and shame that being married to a sex addict brings into our world.
Next up – Finally, someone in Charleston steps up to the plate!
