Books At The Bakery

My most recent trip was a place I had never been before. I was invited to participate in a 4 author panel hosted and planned by author April Joy Bowden. She planned the reading and book signing at a beautiful bakery called The Sweet Shop, located on South Elm Street in Greensboro, NC. I drove up in the morning and made it to the signing right on time. Had the chance to walk around a bit and visit some of the charming shops that are located on Elm Street. It was such a pleasant, new experience for me. I love meeting other author’s and chatting about the challenges of writing, publishing and marketing a first book. I sat next to a lovely young woman, Ondrea Davis, who wrote an extraordinary book about what happened to her life and marriage.

The Sweet Shop on Elm Street

I met some wonderful people during the afternoon at the Sweet Shop. April is also a creative writing teacher and is mentoring young women and encouraging them to write stories and poetry. Some of the ladies from her workshop were there so it was fun to be able to share some encouragement to women who are in the very beginning stages of their own writing journey. I was grateful and happy to be a part of such an event.

I am off to Kernersville this weekend for the Shakespeare Fall Festival –  can’t wait because we finally have some cool, dry sunny weather here in the Carolina’s.
